what happened to radical new design?

not until Santa Rosa - summer 2007.

im happy with this though, a proven design that has the bugs worked out. as far as i am concerned this is not a new Rev A which i would be wary of buying.

i was tottally sold on the 17" before this update, but now that the 15" has nearly identical specs OTHER than an extra FW port and the bigger screen i am debating getting the 15 and using the extra $ to a 23" external display. hmmmmmmmmmmm

What "desirability" does a tower plus monitor combination have over an iMac exactly? I have no interest in interior design, yet even I can see the benefit of sleek tidy iMac against cable mess ugly boxes taking up too much space.

Tower plus monitor desirable? No thanks.

And you guys accuse PC users of sticking to old stereotypes. If you want to see ugly, take a gaze at the army of external devices that my iMac is going to need. I prefer my cables be inside the case instead of covering my desk.

2+ full size optical drives opppsed to a single slow notebook drive
    2+ hard drive bays
    Card reader
    Easy CPU upgrading
    Easy RAM upgrading
Upgradable x16 PCI-Express slot compared to underclocked fixed notebook GPU
3+ PCI/ PCI-E x1 slots for upgrading to new devices
    Choice of display
being able to choose what you want to do instead of having everything dictated to you by Steve Jobs.

I don't think it will have virtualization, especially with the way they are supporting Parallels solution itself. I think a dual-boot or a fast OS switching type of solution is much more likely. Somebody around here was suggesting "sleeping" one OS and starting another. That's almost good enough. Afterall Apple does not want you to use Windows, it only wants you to believe you could run Windows if you had to, in order to ease switcher anxiety.

I've been planning a project like this (I finally got it on sourceforge, in fact) - The idea is to make the virtualization system able to hibernate any given OS (or freeze state it) in such a way that it can be restored as the host OS (and vice versa), so that you can give any of your OSes running (virtual or host), the host priorities while all the others become virtual.

OTOH, that could be laggy, and may be subject to limitations within EFI, only time will tell.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/fruitsalad/ <- shameless self promotion XD

That dewing would mean the phone be top heavy and be more pruned to falling the hand.

When holding our phones, a lot of times, the top half hangs over. With thinner bottom, we could easily drop.

    That's my opinion.

it's an observation, whether you like it or not. But anyway, my post didn't revolve around that point, you just blew out of proportion. Claiming i'm "bored" in your little rant is comical.

Think what you want, but it was still a crappy thing to assume.

It's really disconcerting that so many of the UI changes that Apple has made over the past few OS X iterations have seemed rather arbitrary. Cosmetic improvements are fine (though I think that this look for iCal would be a major step backward), but they should be concentrating on functionality, speed, reliability, and security. If I'm going to give up Rosetta for OS 10.7, I'd like to get a lot more than eye candy.

I bought a Mighty Mouse when it first came out.

Personally, I love it. I do have clicking issues, but not the same as others - where others fins it accidentally left clicks when they try to right-click, I used to get right clicks when I tried left - but after a long time of use, I have learnt to use it as I need.

The scroll ball is awesome, but does seem to fail occasionally...a bit of dampness ont eh ball fixes this though.

    Wooooow, we're straying off topic.

    Back to the topic...

Don't you guys think that the iPod being overtaken is about as likely as Apple overtaking HP, Dell, and Gateway?

I just don't see it happening, Apple has a really high following when it comes to mp3 players and when people have had an iPod, they upgrade to a new iPod, not a Zune.

There is no incentive to go to a Zune. Same DRM, same features. The people who hate the iPod and buy Creative aren't switching to Zune. They don't want to be locked into DRM. So unless microsoft really does something innovative it is just another player in a sea of non-iPods.

EDIT: I mean same DRM in the sense that the download are locked by DRM, not exactly the same type.

Yet, I'm sad nobody else understood it.

I got it, though I don't know precisely what structure it is!

Thanks. Watch for my YouTube™ unboxing later. :p

In the style of SchneiderMan? :)

I don't see how this is going to work... How are they going to keep the same battery life in this form factor? At this price point, or are they going to increase the prices? I'm not going to go back to my 3GS battery life.

Someone at iPhone Dev Forums said that iOS Simulator in Lion will gain ability to download/run apps.

That pretty much means that another "groundbreaking" feature in Lion is ability to run iOS apps (besides iOS Simulator).

you people floor me.... I bet if I could take an iPhone back to 2005 and show you people, you'd all scream "WTF! What a piece of ****! Anything different hurts my eyes! I want my Razor back!!!!1111!!!11"

What is funny is remembering the outcry on the early leaked pictures on the iPhone 4 and how ugly it was... Yet it is the best looking phone in the world now.

Well Apple has used up all the "big cat" names like Tiger and Lion which means that either OS 11 is underway or they will be in the embarassing situation of having to use lesser cat names which imply "less".

    Ocelot, Cheetah, Cougar, Fluffy, etc......

I for one am ready for OS 11.0 "Merlot"

I was REALLY hoping for OSX Couger, lol.

But seriously.... to quote Paul Giamatti...."I am not drinking any ****ING merlot!"

my point wasn’t we need to start; it was that we aren’t getting players. I figured i’d bump it to maybe get the thread some notice.

When do dp and i argue?

i'll play, mostly to annoy aggie.
But i won't ask any clarification on the rules so the usual suspect can keep complaining about being ambushed.

It's only BS to you, I don't obsess over appearances, I buy functionality. My self image is not tied to a phone.

Yet it's Apples brilliance, that realizes the average persons low self esteem and need to be seen with cool toys.

They know that great styling causes the consumer to ignore many faults or shortcomings in the product.

That said I'm noticing an interesting trend, it's the feminization of the iPhone.

With its diminutive size and proliferation of jeweled cases, I see more women with iPhones.

Next, with Verizons excellent Droid campaign, its become the mans phone of choice.

Larger, masculine, great new apps for men, not fart apps for juveniles, the rise in Droid X phones is remarkable and highly visible here in Los Angeles and Orange County.

I know at 6'2" the larger phone is far more comfortable to hold, especially for longer calls and such.

I'm enjoying my Android phones immensely.

My Antennagate 4, not so much.

So Apple ties it's image to low self-esteem women, while Android does the same for low self-esteem men? Thats how I interpreted this argument, though, I might have completely missed the point. Mind clarifying? Basically you make it sound like you bought the Android because of how it portrays what a man's phone should be (all about image). Hey then again who doesn't buy a product based on look, feel, or functionality right?

At least the interface looks like an OS X application. I've always hated Parallels mega cheesy Longhorn icon looking crappy interface.

Indeed. I was appalled when Apple started promoting it!

Yeah, I would estimate my dropped call rate is around 20-30% (Northern Virginia) sometimes higher depending on the day. They said they built a new tower near me, but ever since I got that message, my coverage has dropped at least one to two bars everywhere I go.

Same here in Northern VA...this in addition to the 3.1 bugs is just maddening...enough to drive me to another carrier. Waiting on some Android phones to be released with VZW...Sprint has the the new HTC hero as well. Might be about the closest thing to an iPhone that won't drop my damn calls.

I'm still wondering about battery life.

And they list the wired as Windows compatible, but not the new bluetooth version. Any reason it wouldn't work on Windows?

Any reason anything works in windows?
