In terms of specs, here's what you can get in an HP Pavilion dv6000t for $1263:
Windows XP Media Center

But the HPs are definitely NOT slim computers like the MBPs (you can go check them out at Best Buy). I don't know of any PC makers that are producing anything as slim as the MBPs, so it makes comparisons hard. But in terms of "specs", there you have it. MOKB organizer "LMH" spoke to MacRumors about the project. According to LMH, most of the project's time was spent on Linux and the Mac OS, both of which were described as "not hard" to break.
The Linux kernel takes little time to break. I'm more familiar with the code and thus it also takes less time to isolate issues. OS X kernel (XNU) takes less time but depending on the area you're checking, debugging and isolation may require a bit more time (if you take into account that AppleTalk source code is almost unreadable and totally deprecated) [...] I didn't have much time left for working on Microsoft Windows but I've received the most helpful feedback from the MSRC people on potentially interesting stuff to check. Not a huge reference of internal code nor NDA covered documents, but at least enough to start with.
In LMH's point of view, the state of Mac OS X security is not great.
From the technical perspective, OS X security is rather poor, at least when it comes to kernel-land code. This isn't a sign of negligence of Apple, but obviously when you take code from many different places and stick it together, it's prone to problems. Not just new ones but also old issues that 'went under the radar'. However, just because LMH is a bit critical of Mac OS X's security, don't call him an Apple-hater.

I'm an OS X user myself and I certainly feel like Apple has invested long time on tweaking the little details. Now they just have to invest a little more on security matters, but not hiring a 'turnover security firm' to do the consulting that leaves the job half done. That's what failed, IMHO.

Did they really tell you to use the Shopping Cart feature in iTunes? Because since iTunes 9 this feature is gone now! The documentation you/Apple quoted is depricated unless your still using a pre iTunes 9 version.
I miss shopping cart, but it is still around - called wish list now. Click on the drop down arrow next to the file you want to DL and click "add to wish list." Not sure if it works like this on the iPhone OS though...

Staff should have intervened, and taken the victim to safety. This would have prevented the second episode, which lead to victim fitting.
Looks like serious professional failures there. There should have been someone who is first-aid trained there to deal with the casualty fitting.
I'd say that all present staff undergo mandatory retraining.

I can see them licensing AirPlay to third party, but Apple would do best to stick with upgrading and expanding the functionality of the cute hockey puck sized ATV.
$99 is an amazing price point for the ATV and pretty much everyone has HDTVs. I would love to see a native screen mirroring function for iOS and Macs, but we are more likely to see an Apple branded subscription and iAd supplemented media streaming service to compete with Pandora and Netflix.

Its been my observation that most of the prices on existing content was increased to 1.29. I don't have hard number to back this up, just my observation that most of the content was bumped to the higher price point from being at 0.99 before.
It's based on demand. If it's still popular its more expensive - no matter how old it is.

Agreed. This is what I was saying (or trying to) in my earlier post. That many of the existing replacement backplates out there are just ever so slightly thicker than the stock black battery door, and therefore mess up the fit of quite a few cases. I know most of the aluminum "sandwich" design cases I use (where front and back pieces screw together) won't fit at all if the battery door is even a hair thicker, due to the precise measurements those cases are made to.

It would be interesting to compare Fibre Channel with Thunderbolt. Apart from TB integrating video, TB looks a lot like an evolution of Fibre Channel.
Hum, you have no idea what Fiber channel is if you seriously claim that. Fiber channel is a networking protocol for storage essentially, Thunderbolt is a host based technology. Call me when Thunderbolt can be switched, redundant, do LUN provisioning and can be extended over a MAN to offer multi-site storage.

Is it even known yet exactly how this will work? The fact that Apple needed to make agreements with all of the labels makes this service look a little suspect to me. For example, would I be allowed to store my music that was ripped from a CD under a different label (one which Apple doesn't have an agreement?)
THIS is what my biggest worry with the new service is. I bought CDs since the day they were available and I collected many hundreds of them over the years. I legally digitized them all and store them on my harddrive. Those I would like to store in the cloud in addition the to the ones I purchased through iTunes.

The ways this has been described don't sound much like Apple. I guess they could build it into iTunes in some fairly fluid way, but still. There has to be more to the data center.
Nor do I see how the data center could allow people to upload non-purchased music. Too much required space, just look at your library size and do the math. iTunes has a massive user base.

Since it's a slow and lazy Saturday at home, I decided to get the PS3 folding. So now I have the MP, my MacBook, two of 6 unix machines, my wife's iMac, and my PS3 folding.........what have you guys done to me? ;)
All the folding happiness will be coming to a close on Dec 7th though. That's when the movers show up to do the final packing and ship all my household goods. I should be back up and running full-on by mid Jan.
PS3's give good ppd, and as far as what WE have done to you... check the water - bwahaha!
