I hope it functions better than the corded Mighty Mouse. I ended up buying a logitech corded mouse instead of the "Mighty" Mouse. It just didn't feel right. I hope this one is better, but on the other hand, it can't be worst than the MouseBT. It has to be one of the worst Mice ever made.

I was just curious, because it seems as if it is a "different" person posting. Perhaps in a day or two we'll see you posting how your little sister or mom got hold of your MacRumors account and posted all kind of weird stuff.

This is why Android phones are creeping up on iOS...they are offering more features and constant innovation in the hardware. iPhone users (and I used to be one) only enjoy hardware innovation once a year.

When does a single user actually get more than one new phone a year? You're creating a false scenario for a single user. As a community, android users have more choice, but a single user isn't negatively affected by the amount of innovation given that they can only buy once a year.

Maybe we will see an LTE iPhone in 2012, maybe not but I can say with all the certainty in the world that Android will have kick ass dual core LTE phones with large screens and probably something retina like in resolution by then. I wouldn't be surprised to see 12 MP cameras, 2-3 MP front cameras all running Android 2.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The forthcoming iPhone will likely be the dual core A5 processor. There is no faster SoC out there right now. 12 MP is irrelevant. It's all about the quality of the sensor, of which Apple is ranked one of the absolute highest. You're falling for the numbers game and assuming bigger means better.

For instance, only camera I've seen rated higher than the ip4's is a nokia's. Who's using nokia smartphones these days? The ip4's screen is considered among the best. The only one that will outright beat it is probably the upcoming SAMOLED + from Samsung. However, I bet the iPhone 6 or 7 will probably make the jump to AMOLED too. In terms of battery life, the droid x and atrix are pretty much on par. You have to get a blackberry to get better battery life.

Apple pays 70% straight to the record companies, which would be $0.90. If Amazon pays the same, then they have $0.21 loss before they even start. Or Amazon gets different prices than Apple, which would need some explaining.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a loss leader nor would I be surprised if different retailers had different costs associated with the products they sell. The local gas station, Wal-mart, and Costco typically don't pay the same price for the products they sell and I don't see why the online retail game would be any different.

You have implied your own proof. The fact that they are in Court at all should tell you money is not going from the site to the record labels / artists etc.

The only reason the cases have failed is that its not illegal under Russian law. Russian sites are violating international law in making this content available, but international law is very, very difficult to enforce. Especially where the action is legal in the violating nation.

So by your logic, if you end up in court on flagrantly made up charges, you're guilty by implication? Jesus...

I searched and shockingly couldn't find a thread like this. I don't know about anyone else but this is when I start my Christmas shopping. So, what do you want [realistically] this year for Christmas? Don't forget to include your pictures! And no, it doesn't have to be limited to Apple products.

All I want is this beautiful piece of engineering:

lbro, chrmjenkins, and jav6454 all looked around trying to figure out what planet the magic glowing button sent them to. What they saw looked a bit like a congested downtown, with office buildings and garbage everywhere. When they opened the door to get out, they where overwhelmed by a stench. A stench so great, even jav6454 could feel its burn.

With the computer unable to tell them the planet (silly operating system), they set off for the closest building. Getting nearer, they heard noises that sounded like a person being held captive. "jav6454, give me your leg." chrmjenkins asked. "My what?" "Your leg, just give it to him." lbro said. jav6454 detached his leg and hobbled along after them into the building. When they got inside, they saw a huge open room with a flower pot in the middle of it. "Well, there isn't anything in here. Let's go." jav6454 said, still wanting his leg back so he could kick lbro with it.

Just then there was a squeaking sound from the rafters. They all looked up to see the biggest mouse they had ever seen. chrmjenkins peed himself, lbro fainted, and jav6454 fell over. The mouse jumped down and started to move toward lbor. chrmjenkins, having only just met him, did not want lbro to die by the teeth of a giant mouse.

Then chrmjenkins jumped up, grabbed jav6454's leg and started to viciously beat the giant mouse with it. It only took 14 hits before the mouse was no more. It vanished into a puff of trans-dimensional smoke. Now feeling quite good about his physical abilities, he gave jav6454 his leg back and together they dragged lbro back to the ship. Once inside, chrmjenkins pushed the magic glowing button. For he did not want to go into any more of the office buildings.

When the ship came back into being, they all looked out the window. lbor recognizing the planet shouted "Mammariea! Mammariea! We are finally here! Take the ship down!" Down went the ship though the clouds.

Eldiablojoe was a wolf. This is the start of a 24 hour limited night.

Finally updating my PowerMac G3. Thats right...1999.

With my student discount, and the fact that I'd want 2gig ram, there is about a $400 difference between the 2.16 and 2.33 15-inchers. How much practical difference in speed will the 2.33 have over teh 2.16? Do you think it'll be $400 worth? Thanks.

I'm honestly surprised by a lot of you. The whole "no single android phone outsells the iPhone!" argument, is foolish and weak. It's a platform war.

How do you "win" a platform war?

Does Google win because they have so many devices running their Android OS? *Marketshare*

Or does Apple win because you have to buy their hardware in order to get iOS? *Profit*

Or can we just agree that both platforms are doing insanely well in their respective ways?

alright! nice! let us know how they are doing, and run the bigadv units if you can

    Welcome!
Please run the bigadv units, you will get much better PPD. It looks like you are running the regular SMP client for now.
Use -smp 8 if the are 2008 or earlier, -smp 16 if they are 2009 otco...

Both computers now up-and-running. No complaints from the designers regarding poor performance :)

I'm running the standard client, I'll look into the other options when I got some spare time.

It's quite remarkable to see the performance boost compared to my G5 dual 1.8 that's been folding for years.

I've just downloaded the update on my iPhone and iPad and i noticed that on the iPad (not iPhone) in the General Setings now there is now a multitouch gestures button to enable this function. It suports 4 fingers up to show the app switcher, 4 fingers to the sides to switch apps and 5 fingers to the centre to go to the home screen.

    It works great!

Did you have these Gestures enabled before?

Look, it is not my intention to cast any aspersions on carterx, but it would be totally STUPID for anyone to download and install software that's sitting on a site other than the offical one (vmware.com in this case) just because someone posted it to a forum. Doubly so when the link is posted by someone who's joined the forum in the past few days!

People, you need to use some security sense. Nine times out of ten a link posted by a random user is probably safe; but it's that other time you need to worry about. Especially now that Macs have a higher profile.

I'm holding off until WWDC to decide what route of "Mac conversion" I am going to be using. If Leopard has a built in Parallels type solution (which I believe it will), then I will absolutely begin my church's mac conversion in January.

Phil Schiller recently that it isn't going to happen. "absolutely not, the R&D would be prohibitive and were not going to do it. Our solution is dual boot." (http://www.macworld.com/news/2006/07/07/windowsmac/index.php) At the same time, they are happy to promote Parallels (http://www.apple.com/getamac/windows.html).

Since I couldn't find it posted yet: not only does the 15" model come with 1 GB standard now, it's also in an 'upgrade friendly' way: 1 x 1 GB instead of 2 x 512. So, if you want to upgrade your memory later, you can do it fully and are not stuck with an extra module.

The word "same" never occurs in the text, which never contemplates multiple installs.

It says you can't use it in a virtual machine. End of story. End of discussion.

Vista Business and Ultimate include additional licenses to also run the same licensed copy of Vista running natively on the licensed device in a virtualization environment as well.

In other words, if you purchase or build a PC with Windows Vista Ultimate, you can use that same installation and license to install it in a virtualization environment on that same platform. That goes beyond what has been done on any other platform for virtualization, and why the limitation is specifically delineated on Vista Home:

You may not use the software installed[1] on the licensed device[2] within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system.

[1] This means "the software" (i.e., Vista Home Basic or Premium) is already installed on a licensed device.

[2] The "licensed device" is the device that Vista Home is already installed on, and that license may not be reused to also install it in a virtualization environment, which you CAN do with Vista Business and Ultimate, because Microsoft includes additional licenses specifically for virtualization use, which is why there are all these specifics about virtualization use on the lower end Vista versions in the EULA in the first place.

The Vista Business/Ultimate EULA on the same topic states:

    6. USE WITH VIRTUALIZATION TECHNOLOGIES. You may use the software installed on the
licensed device within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system on the licensed device. If
you do so, you may not play or access content or use applications protected by any Microsoft digital,
information or enterprise rights management technology or other Microsoft rights management
services or use BitLocker. We advise against playing or accessing content or using applications
protected by other digital, information or enterprise rights management technology or other rights
management services or using full volume disk drive encryption.

This is because Vista Business and Ultimate include additional licenses so that you can use the same copy, legally ALSO within a virtualization environment on that same system. This is more than is possible with any other commercial OS, from a licensing perspective. The restrictions on Vista Home are ONLY restricting you from using it in a VM on the device where it's already installed. If you buy Vista Home standalone as a retail box, and it's not installed anywhere else, you are free, legally and technically, to use it in a VM to your heart's content.
